The University of Western Australia is a public research university in Perth, established in 1911 as the state's first university and a member of the Group of Eight. Its main campus at Crawley sits on the Swan River about five kilometres from the city centre. UWA is known for its work in mining and earth sciences, engineering, agriculture, medicine and marine science.
